Network cable is of different type and with different settings.

Cable is of 3 types and all three types have different categories.

1.      Twisted Pair Cable

2.      Coaxial Cable

3.      Optical Fiber Cable

Cable connector setting is of two types.

1.      Straight Cable

2.      Cross Cable.

When we use hub/router/switches we use straight cable and when between two computers we use cross cable.

Direct communication between two computers we prefer cross cable. When between two computers we use cross cable.
